Acting Career

Sean Astin has appeared in over 40 motion pictures.  His first major appearance in a feature film was as "Mikey Walsh" in  The Goonies, one of the most popular kids' adventure films of all time. In Where the Day Takes You, his portrayal of a strung out homeless kid on the streets of Hollywood marked a dramatic evolution in his career. Then, in 1993, he starred in TriStar Pictures' Rudy, which established him as a working-class hero and an inspirational role model to people around the world.  He is known worldwide as Samwise Gamgee in New Line Cinema's blockbuster trilogy The Lord of the Rings, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's immensely popular books.

Other notable performances have been with Brendan Fraser in Encino Man, Memphis Belle with Matthew Modine and Eric Stoltz, Warren Beatty's Bulworth, HBO's sci-fi movie Harrison Bergeron, Safe Passage with Susan Sarandon and Sam Shepard,  Boy Meets Girl, and Toy Soldiers.
