Three American college grads road-trip south of the border in pursuit of a fun-filled weekend drenched in drinking and debauchery. Instead, they discover dismemberment and death in Borderland, Lions Gate's genre hybrid of horror, drama and true-crime.
Inspired by real-life kidnappings involving a Mexican sacrificial cult, Borderland spirals into the terrifying world of predators hunting the dimly lit streets and dark alleys of Manzinita for their next human victim. The locals don't cut it as sacrificial lambs they're strong, silent types who refuse to cry out in pain. The cultists need terrified cries to make the rituals potent; someone who will howl in agony as he sees the face of death.
They set their sights on the three American amigos, whose vacation across the border quickly becomes a trip to hell. After a night of partying with Lupe (Francesca Guilen) and Valeria (Martha Higareda), Ed (Brian Presley) and Henry (Jake Muxworthy) realize Phil (Rider Strong) never made it back to the hotel.
When the local police refuse to get involved, they understand they're dealing with a powerful and dangerous group of people. No one will help, until an ex-cop on the trail of the cult, Ulises (Damian Alcazar), joins forces with them in the search for their friend. But it may prove to be too late for them all.
